“It was a nightmare.”

Lindir blinked wearily. He was standing in his doorway, not entirely certain he wanted to allow his visitor entrance. It was late – or early. Either way, he had not planned to entertain. He planned to sleep. However, the elf in the hallway looked positively frightened, and it was not Lindir’s nature to turn away anyone. He stepped aside, and immediately Erestor entered and began to pace.

“It was all going the way it always goes. Then, suddenly, he laughed at me – he laughed! It was horrible,” recounted the counselor. “It was so... dark. So... evil, in a way. And then he pointed out my flaws, and my inconsistencies and everything that could never be perfect about me. Then he was gone, and I was alone.”

“Is this the first time this has happened?” queried Lindir as he settled onto the settee and pulled a pillow closer.

Erestor nodded worriedly. “What if it keeps happening?”

“Dream of something else?” suggested Lindir.

“But I want to dream of him,” admitted Erestor.

Lindir tried to get comfortable. He had a feeling he was not going to be getting much dreaming done tonight.
