Haldir laughed in delight as he climbed the high oak tree and entered his secret talan. None would find him here as he had chosen its location with utmost care and planning. He planned to rest undisturbed for a few days, and process the delights of the trip he had just returned from.

He had been sent to the Havens with missives for Cirdan. At first he had feared the call of the sea but Cirdan had assured him he would hear nothing until his time. So he had set about enjoying the sights and sounds all around him until time to return. He had spent hours in the library and on the training fields. He had enjoyed the feel of the ocean and sand on his skin as he sailed and played on the beach. But what had occupied most of his time had been his favorite hobby, he had people watched.

There had been many contingents from many lands in the Havens and he had watched them all. He could perfectly recall the uncouthness of men and the weirdness of dwarves. He had met Ents on the outskirts of the forest and had been sad to tell them that no he had not seen the Entwives in his travels. He had tasted the various foods of the Hobbits, as well as that of several southern folk with ships presently in port. But what had fascinated him the most had been watching the interactions of his own people.

There had been elves of all types, from all the different kingdoms, present in Círdan’s home and he had enjoyed watching them. He had learned much and been surprised numerous times. He still remembered seeing Gildor, leader of the wandering tribes, and Lindir, the head minstrel of Imladris locked in a passionate embrace on the dance floor in front of everyone. He had laughed with the others when Cirdan finally told them to find a room before they gave others ideas. Yes, he had seen and learned much; but it did not compare to being at home.
