category - I am squirmish. THE KISS "No." Erestor glared the elves around him, silently warning anyone against coming closer. Lindir, on the other hand, wasn't intimidated so easily. "It is a tradition, Erestor. You stand under the mistletoe with Glorfindel. Why do you want to break such a beautiful ritual? It is only a little kiss, nothing more," the silver-haired minstrel insisted. Surprisingly, it was Glorfindel who gave up first. "You don't need to do that, Erestor. I wouldn't dream of forcing my…attentions on you when I know how repulsive you find me," he said calmly, before turning and leaving stunned Lindir and Erestor behind. To his dismay, Erestor didn't feel relief or triumph for his victory. Instead, he found that his heart ached for his long-time nemesis. Just before Glorfindel had turned away, his beautiful eyes had swum with unshed tears. Of that, Erestor was sure. Lindir looked at his friend, knowing that it was needless to scold Erestor. The elf obviously understood that he had gone too far. The minstrel had never seen his friend like this; confused and anxious like a lost child. He wasn't surprised when Erestor bowed his head and excused himself, and then rushed to the same direction as Glorfindel mere moments ago. Lindir sighed, and hoped that his stubborn friends finally would see the truth. * * * * Glorfindel hurried through the corridors, silently thankful of the fact that they were empty. He didn't want anyone to see him like this; broken and pathetic. The elda reached the door of his chambers and pulled it open. He stepped in the room and threw the door shut but in his distress, he failed to notice that it wasn't locked. The tears burned behind his eyelids, but he refused to give in to them. Silently, he cursed his stubborn heart that refused to believe the truth; Erestor would never be his. Glorfindel opened the balcony's door heedless the frosty weather. He stared at the snowy landscape, unable to enjoy its beauty. It seemed that he was doomed to stay alone. Erestor was like a star to him; beautiful, but distant and elusive. He heard footsteps behind him, and tensed. Why hadn't he made sure that the door was locked? * * * * "Go away!" Erestor flinched at the icy tone. Never had he heard Glorfindel speaking thus; an unfailing sign that the elda was really upset. "Glorfindel...I... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you," Erestor offered carefully. "Of course you didn't. You never do. You can go now," Glorfindel hissed, hoping desperately that Erestor would leave him before he would break down completely. He wasn't so lucky. Glorfindel jumped when he suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder. Erestor had never touched him before. He tried to shed the disturbing hand away, but his body felt paralyzed. "Glorfindel, saes, listen to me," Erestor pleaded. Glorfindel still refused to meet his gaze, and he began to feel desperate. "Shouldn't you be happy, councillor? You finally have reached your goal. I promise you that from now on, I will not disturb you in any way." Suddenly, two surprisingly strong arms forced Glorfindel to turn around, and he found himself looking into dark eyes that were now full of tears. He had to remind himself to stay firm. He didn't know why Erestor was here, and he couldn't trust this remorse to be genuine. "I am not happy. How could I, after hurting you the way I did?" Erestor whispered. His heart ached when he saw Glorfindel looking at him with distrust in his eyes. But on the other hand; what else he could expect? "Then why, Erestor? Why you always shun me like I was the most repulsive creature on Arda?" Glorfindel asked, silently grateful that his voice was steady. "Because... because I just don't know what to do with you." The words were said so softly that Glorfindel hardly heard them and suddenly it struck in him: Erestor was afraid of him. Before he could stop himself, Glorfindel cupped Erestor's face and met his gaze. "You should know that I would never hurt you, Erestor," he whispered, silently marvelling at Erestor's soft skin under his fingertips. Glorfindel felt the dark-haired elf slightly trembling, as he continued his caresses. Erestor was like a wild deer; fearful and vulnerable. "I know. It is just..." Erestor breathed, and his heart started to race when Glorfindel leaned closer. "...just... what? I must tell you... this is your last chance to go. If you stay, I will kiss you." At Glorfindel's astonishment,
Erestor didn't take advantage of the opportunity to leave. The dark-
haired elf was warm and willing in his arms, as their lips finally
met. FIN.
