LINDIR’S WISH

"Do you come to the Fire-Hall tonight, meleth (love)? I have my new song ready and I would like you to hear it."

Erestor didn't even clanced up but shook his head. "I'm sorry, but I cannot. The escort from Mirkwood is almost here and it is necessary to have these documents ready before its arrival."

Lindir couldn't say anything to that. He knew full well that his lover was a busy elf, but still he had hoped that Erestor would find time to be with him in this special occasion.

"It's all right. Do you want me to come here after the performance? We could have a little moonlight stroll before bedtime," Lindir offered carefully, knowing how much Erestor loved their nightly walks.

"I think it is better that you go straight to the bed. I don't know how long it will take me to finish my work,” Erestor said with a sigh, silently hoping that Lindir would take the hint and leave him to his duties. The councillor loved Lindir, but sometimes he felt that the minstrel didn't fully understand the concentration that his duties required

Lindir bowed his head in defeat and left silently. He knew better than to insist further, even if his heart ached. After locking the door as quietly as possible, he leaned against the wall and wept silently. He thought of those countless times when they had had similar conversations, and every time Erestor's rejection hurt terribly. He also remembered that more and more often, Erestor was so tired that he fell asleep as soon as he reached the bed. At the mornings, Lindir usually woke up alone, as Erestor had already left for his duties. It was long time since they have last made love. Lately Lindir had begun to think the only possible explanation for his lover's disregard. Was it possible that Erestor didn't love him anymore?

The minstrel started as he felt a soft touch on his shoulder. He turned around and at his dismay, saw that the Lord of Imladris had catched him in a most inopportune moment.

"I... I'm sorry, Híren (My lord). I will go immediately," Lindir whispered, mortified.

"What is wrong, Lindir? I would like to help you, if I can," Elrond said with a compassionate tone that tore Lindir's heart even more. He didn't want this. He did not want to pour his heart to a third party, no matter if it was Elrond, who he considered a friend.

"It's nothing. I will be fine. Good day," Lindir bid farewell to his Lord and all but ran away. Elrond looked behind the fleeing elf and frowned. He thought through Lindir's words and was able to hazard a guess as to what might be wrong. Elrond opened the door and stepped into the Library. If he was right, a certain councillor would have a thorough chastisement.

Elrond found his councillor staring at the door, obviously deep in thought.

"Erestor. What has happened?" The half-elf asked with a frown. Now he was sure that something was seriously wrong with Erestor and Lindir. Whatever it was, it was enough to drive his strict councillor to distraction.

"Why do you ask?" Erestor said cautiously. He wasn't ready to confide to his friend, especially when he himself wasn't sure what was wrong. Lindir hadn't said anything, but the nauseous feeling grew within him; some foreboding told Erestor that he had hurt his lover somehow. Elrond's next words confirmed his suspicions.

"Would you care to tell me why I found your lover in tears just a moment ago? Did you have a fight?" The half-elf asked somewhat sternly. He knew his councillor well enough to be aware of the fact that Erestor sometimes buried himself in his works and neglected Lindir in the process. If this was the case, Elrond felt obliged to remind his councillor for his other duties.

"I... we... no. He just...left," Erestor whispered. He suddenly felt overwhelming need to run behind Lindir and to make sure that he was all right. And then Elrond's words finally penetrated

"What! Did you say that he was crying?" Erestor felt like the lowest creature in Arda, as brutish as an orc. How he could have been so stupid? He had known that Lindir held these occasions in high regard, and wanted Erestor to share them with him. And he, heartless fool, had turned his beloved away.

"What I have done! I must go to him," Erestor whispered, but Elrond stopped his leaving.

"I have said this before, Erestor. Any work isn’t more important than your commitment as a lover. Lindir loves you with all his heart, and he deserves nothing less back."

Erestor buried his head in his hands, feeling extremely ashamed. "You are right. I am ungrateful fool. The Valar had gifted me amazing love and I neglect him. Saes, let me go, Elrond. I want to make this up for him."

"Go. And remember: I don't want to see this happen again. Lindir deserves only the best. And so do you, if you are wise enough to appreciate what you have."

Erestor left, and a plan began to form in his mind. Tonight, Lindir would receive the appreciation and attention he so richly deserved.

Lindir tried to hide his melancholy, as he made the last preparations for the evening's performance. He had to act like a true artist and fulfil his duty, no matter how much he was hurting inside. Sighing, he took his harp and opened the door to the Hall of Fire.

Nothing could prepare Lindir to the surprise he had felt when he saw his lover sitting on his usual seat. Almost fearfully, Lindir met Erestor's gaze and found his dark eyes unusually soft. When he studied further his raven-haired lover, he noticed other changes too. Erestor smiled at him! Lindir didn’t remember when he had last seen that look on his lover’s face. His head reeled; what had caused Erestor to change his mind?

Lindir gathered his thoughts and the performance began. As usually, Lindir soon lost himself to the music and his pure voice echoed in the hall. When the last note finally faded away, the listeners had tears in their eyes. Lindir didn't saw them. He didn't hear the applauses. He only saw his beloved Erestor who now stood beside him and offered his arm to him. Lindir took it, and together they walked out of the hall.

Erestor led Lindir outside of the house, and walked until they finally reached a little bench. He sat down and pulled his lover beside him.

"... Lindir?" He inquired gently, as he cupped the minstrel's face and caressed the silky cheek.

"You came. Even if you..." Lindir whispered, wanting desperately to know what had changed his lover's mind.

"...even if I behaved like a selfish and heartless fool. I am very sorry, Lindir nín (my Lindir).. Would you forgive me for my neglect?" Erestor asked his face now dead serious.

"I forgive you. I just hoped that you knew how much I miss you when you are not with me. I know that your duties are important but..."

"They are not as important as you, Lindir nín. I was very wrong to neglect you like that. Let me make it up for you."

Lindir couldn't answer. He melted in Erestor's arms as the councillor pulled him closer and kissed him softly.

Erestor groaned with pleasure, as he tasted Lindir's mouth thoroughly. He had almost forgotten how delicious and utterly sinful Lindir's kisses were. The minstrel was warm and willing in his arms, driving him to distraction. With great effort, Erestor gathered his wits and whispered in Lindir's ear:

"Would you come with me, meleth nín? I want to make love with you. It is far too long since we..." The rest of his words were smothered in passionate kiss.

* * * *

Lindir didn't know how they had managed to reach their chambers. He couldn't remember where their clothes had disappeared to.  He could only feel the soft sheets beneath his bare back, as Erestor pinned him against the bed and their bodies entwined together. Waves of growing pleasure overtook Lindir’s senses as the intoxicating kisses and caresses continued and Lindir lay on the bed, writhing and pleading his lover to take him. His eyes flew open when he felt Erestor shifting atop him, wondering what was going on. Erestor’s intentions were revealed to Lindir in a next moment, as his lover slowly eased him onto his aching length.

“You are mine, Lindir nín. And I’m yours, always,” Erestor whispered lovingly, as he set a slow but satisfying pace. Lindir moaned and bucked beneath him, and Erestor looked down on his lover’s beautiful face, which were now flushed with pleasure. Suddenly, the minstrel tensed and the blue eyes glazed.  Lindir’s release sent Erestor over the edge, and he sank on his lover’s chest in throes of his own completion.

Erestor used his last strength to ease himself beside his lover, and took Lindir in his arms. Again and again he kissed Lindir, whispering words of love to him, until the tremors finally stopped and the minstrel rested languidly against him.

“How do you feel now, meleth nín (my love)?” Erestor asked softly, caressing Lindir’s back. Despite the fact that his body was sated, Erestor’s heart was still troubled. He had hurt Lindir, and one evening wasn’t enough to make up all those years of disregard.

“I missed you, Erestor. Have you any idea how much I have longed for nights like this?” Lindir whispered, finally admitting how lonely he had felt lately.

“Believe me, when I say that I have missed you just as much. But henceforth, the things will be different. I will never neglect you in this way, if you just give me another change to prove myself,” Erestor promised, finally making his mind. He had thought to surprise his lover at their anniversary, but he decided that this was the right time to accomplish his plan.

Erestor rose from the bed, pulling his lover with him and led him to sit on the couch before the fireplace.

“Erestor? What you..?” Lindir tried to ask, but Erestor didn’t give him any explanation, only smiled enigmatically. The minstrel studied at his lover’s nude form as the councillor walked trough the room, and took something from the drawer. He sighed longingly, thinking that he had never seen anything as beautiful as his Erestor.

Lindir stirred from his thoughts as Erestor found what he had been looking for, and turned around. His breath hitched in his throat when he saw the little box in his lover’s hand. He couldn’t say one word, but just waited when Erestor made his way back to him and then slowly kneeled in front of him.

“I have waited for his moment, Lindir nín. I waited almost too long, and hurt you terribly. Would you forgive this old fool of an elf and grant me my greatest wish? Would you bind with me and be mine forever?” Erestor said, presenting the contents of the box for his lover.

Lindir gasped when the box opened, revealing two matching rings. Tears blinded his eyesight, as he pulled his lover closer and whispered his answer to him.

“I say yes. I will bind with you, and be yours forever. This has been my greatest wish since we met for the first time.”

“So be it. I promise to love and cherish you always. I don’t want to be the cause of your sorrow ever again, meleth nín,” Erestor said with a smile.

* * * *

Lindir woke up when the Anar began to rise in horizon. He stretched lazily, but a strong arm tightened around him, stopping his movement.

“Where do you think you are going, meleth nín?” The sleepy voice purred.

“I thought we could go to the breakfast together. You are almost late, you sleepy head,” Lindir chuckled, kissing his betrothed.

Erestor, too smiled. “I am not late, Lindir nín.”

“What do you mean?”

“Oh, didn’t I tell you already?” Erestor whispered, nuzzling Lindir’s neck and making him shiver. “Elrond gave me this day off, and I already know what I want for breakfast.”

Lindir gasped when he found himself beneath very aroused and anything but sleepy elf.  Soon, the only sounds that echoed in the room were breathless noises of lovemaking.

FIN.
