“Peregrin Took, just what are you doing wandering the halls at such a late hour?” Gandalf huffed as he made his way closer, leaning heavily upon his staff. “Outside the steward’s quarters? To bed with you, young hobbit!”
“I- I- only came to see to his needs,” stuttered Pippin. “I- I- did take an oath to him…” he trailed.
“In the middle of the night, it is doubtful you—“ Gandalf paused as the door opened.
“Wizards really should meddle in their own affairs,” warned Denethor as he reached down to stroke Pippin’s hair and coax him into the room.
