“This is the hardest story that I have ever told.” Maglor stared down at his hands as Elrond fussed with them.
“You tried,” offered Elrond as he bandaged a burned finger carefully.
“No hope or love or glory,” murmured Maglor.
“You are here now, safe with me.” Elrond was hopeful.
“Our happy ending is gone forever more,” lamented Maglor. “I have fallen too far for you, love. No hope, or love, or glory.”
“We.. we could pretend nothing went wrong—“
“I am not pretending,” said Maglor firmly. “I guess I wish you well.”
Maglor was gone before morning came.
