My first weeks back were the busiest. Everyone wanted to talk to me, to thank me, to see me. There was so very much I wanted to do.
It was not until almost a month after setting foot ashore that I had that moment of realization of how blessed I really was. It was past midnight. The wind had been strengthening through the evening, and I heard the thunder crashing overhead. I slid out of bed and crept out onto the balcony, and stood for hours in the rain, my face turned to the heavens, so thankful to be alive.
